COMPANY CONTEXT
Our client is a French company that, for over 30 years, has invested heavily in research and development to design, manufacture, and market medical devices for ophthalmologists. The company systematically involves expert surgeons in the development of its new products, which it aims to make ever more innovative to treat excessive tearing, dry eye syndrome, as well as various palpebral, orbital, and retinal pathologies.
FILTRATION ISSUE
The recently installed filtration configuration did not meet the client's expected industrial air quality requirements. A significant number of particles were present in the air, especially when the operating pressure exceeded 2.5 bar.
This unsatisfactory experience led us to propose a secure filtration solution to ensure the client meets its quality objectives.
PEMFLOW FILTRATION SOLUTION
The proposed filtration sequence consists of three stages:
- A cyclonic separator with a capacitive drain at the compressor outlet to remove particles, residual water, and oil.
- A filter sequence placed before and after the dryer.
Expert Advice
It is important to protect the dryer from oil emulsions by using a filter, such as a coalescing filter. If oil aerosols enter the desiccator, they quickly coat the tubing of its heat exchanger, disrupting flow and impairing its cooling capacity.
All components comply with FDA requirements for food contact in accordance with CFR (Code of Federal Regulations) Title 21 and EC / 1935/2004 regulations.
The third stage involves installing a security filtration system at each usage point.
This final stage of sterilizing filtration is built around an Amazon Filters Series 51 housing and a pleated membrane cartridge from the same manufacturer:
- Hydrophobic PTFE membrane
- Filtration threshold of 0.02 µm for gases (0.2 µm for liquids)
- Polypropylene support
- Validated by bacterial and aerosol challenge tests
- Complies with US FDA CFR Title 21
- Testable
Expert Advice
Sterile filter housings are available in various standard sizes, covering a wide range of flow rates (typically from a few m3/h to several thousand m3/h for multi-element systems).
The results of this new filtration configuration meet our client's expectations.
