COMPANY CONTEXT
The company's site is Europe's leading centre for hydrocarbon resins and polymers. The products manufactured are the raw materials for many everyday products, including food packaging, electronics, medical and automotive products.
FILTRATION PROBLEMS
The company filters solvent-based resins (70-80% MTBE or Toluene) to eliminate coarse residues and agglomerates.
Our customer wanted to optimise the service life of its filtration consumables. The service life of its flexible bags was fluctuating between 2 and 4 hours of production. Trials with W bags and then with deep pleated cartridges failed to exceed a service life of 24 hours.
The production manager consulted us about an alternative solution that would significantly extend the life of the filtration consumables and drastically reduce maintenance operations.
THE PEMFLOW FILTRATION SOLUTION
In response to this problem, we proposed a filtration consumable that combines the advantages of cartridge filters with the ease of use of bag filter systems.
It was important to take into account two constraints of the installation:
- No need to change the filter body
- Without process requalification
We chose a size 1 pleated rigid bag, offering a high-performance filter medium.

- Filtration threshold of 50 µm
- Flange diameter: Ø177 mm
- Size 1 with an exchange surface of 3 m2, compared to 0.25 m2 for a standard soft bag
- EPDM seal
In conclusion, this rigid bag technology has increased the lifespan from a few hours to 5/7 days.
