COMPANY CONTEXT
A specialist in contract packaging, formulation and high-volume logistics for a wide range of sectors (petrochemicals, food processing, chemicals, hazardous products, intermediate chemicals, e-liquids, special fuels, greases and lubricants, paint, inks and dyes, cleaning products, automotive), The company supports its customers with an integrated approach that consists of implementing a tailor-made solution including a personalised study, the production of formulations and mixtures, the filling of drums, mini-containers or tanks, the management of upstream and downstream flows and supplies right through to on-site delivery. It also carries out filtration operations from one container to another.
FILTRATION PROBLEMS
In order to meet its customers' quality expectations, our customer needed to transfer 26 tonnes of product (Hallcomid) from a road tanker to 26 IBC tanks. However, the company noted the presence of 20 kg of fine particles after centrifugation in the laboratory. As a result, clarification by filtration became necessary.
Our customer carried out filtration tests on filter bags with a 1 µm threshold. However, the result, after filtration, was not compliant; the product was still cloudy and did not meet quality expectations. The company approached us with a request to hire a filtration unit for this one-off filtration operation.
THE PEMFLOW FILTRATION SOLUTION
Given the discharge rate of 2 to 3 m3/h, we proposed renting a 316 stainless steel filtration housing, equipped with 3 20-inch cartridges, with an absolute filtration threshold of 0.2 µm particulate. We opted for an AMAZON FILTER SupaPore depth pleated filter cartridge, with Beta ratio 5000 absolute retention, to eliminate product cloudiness.
These pleated filter cartridges offer excellent retention capacity and high filtration efficiency, making them the ideal solution for liquid processes in the chemical industry. Our customer appreciated the large filter surface area offering high flow rates and low pressure drops, as well as the high chemical compatibility thanks to the 100% FDA polypropylene construction.
The characteristics of the filter cartridges are as follows:
- 100% FDA polypropylene construction
- Filtration threshold 0.2 µm absolute
- 20-inch size
- Code 8 connection, equipped with Viton seal (requested by our client due to the type of filtered liquid)
- Pleated depth media
To house the 3 absolute depth pleated filtration cartridges, we chose the AMAZON FILTERS 61 series multi-cartridge housing in 316 STAINLESS STEEL. These are designed to be placed on the floor. The top opening is fitted with a moulded V-clamp with a ‘W’ seal for improved watertightness. A PTFE washer in the compression plate also ensures a tight seal with the filter cartridges. All our housings comply with the ATEX 94/9/EC standard, CE level Ex II 2 GD cX.
Our understanding of the problems faced by our customer, our responsiveness in providing a rental solution and proposing an effective filtration solution meant that both the service provider and the end customer were fully satisfied.
